Relief depicting the communist struggle.

On our first day in Beijing we got up at 5am (rather jet-lagged) and decided to explore. We headed two blocks to Tiananmen Square (about a mile because the blocks are enormous in Beijing). It was hot and muggy, we were dripping by the time we got there but we strolled around a bit and watched the locals flying kites and selling trinkets.
