Bahai (Lotus) Temple
Back Home Up Next

The Bahai Temple celebrates the lotus flower, a symbol of purity, and the number nine, which represents unity in the Bahai faith. The nine pools on the elevated platform signify the green leaves of the lotus. The sleek structure has two layers: nine white marble-covered petals that point to heaven, and nine petals that conceal the portals. From a short distance, it all looks like a fantastic work of origami rising out of the earth. Completed in 1986, the temple was designed by Fariburz Sahba, an Iranian-born Canadian architect.
